How is Gummy Smile Treatment Performed?
Before your procedure, Dr. Karen will closely listen to your aesthetic concerns, goals, and needs to determine your expected outcome. From there, he'll address your smile to see how he can help you reduce the amount of gums showing when you smile so you can have a clear expectation of what to expect following your treatment. Using BOTOX, Dr. Karen will make small injections in specific treatment sites to give you a smile worth smiling about. This relatively quick procedure has virtually no downtime, although you may experience some swelling, redness, or bruising — this is perfectly normal and will subside on its own. Some of our Shenandoah Valley patients notice their results relatively quickly; however, for others, it can take two weeks or so to notice a real difference. Depending on your desired goals, you may require multiple sessions to get your ideal look; however, this is something Dr. Karen or someone from his team will discuss with you beforehand. You may want to schedule a follow-up appointment between 3 – 6 months following your initial treatment to maintain your results.
Gummy Smile FAQ
What causes a gummy smile?
In a rather obvious sense, the primary cause of a gummy smile is an abundance of gum tissue. This often happens during the process of the eruption of the permanent teeth when an overgrowth of gum tissue covers too much of the teeth. Fortunately, this gum tissue can be easily removed during gummy smile treatment.
How much does gummy smile treatment cost?
The price of gummy smile treatment can change significantly from patient to patient based on the exact amount of gum tissue present. During your consultation, we can assess your gums and create a personalized treatment plan, which will allow us to provide an in-depth cost estimate for the procedure.
Is gummy smile treatment painful?
In general, most of our patients consider gummy smile treatment to be very comfortable and fast. Perhaps best of all, there is often little to no downtime associated with the procedure, allowing patients to continue with their normal, daily lives.
