What are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels are individualized exfoliating solutions (such as salicylic, glycolic, trichloroacetic, and lactic acids) to help men and women reveal healthier, more radiant skin on the face, neck, and décollatage. At Exclusively Faces Cosmetic Surgery and Medispa, double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Karen offers chemical peel treatments that help resolve skin flaws, like wrinkles, fine lines, scars, rough patches, hyperpigmentation issues, and more. Chemical peels remove damaged, dead skin cells by using a personalized peel on your skin that causes the surface layer to peel off. As your skin heals and starts to repair and rejuvenate itself, you should notice a clearer, smoother complexion. Chemical peels are a noninvasive method to make your complexion bright.

What Can I Expect from A Chemical Peel?
At your consultation, Dr. Karen will assess your individual concerns and needs before creating a custom chemical peel treatment plan. You will receive one of these chemical peels:
Light peels: This type of peel will remove the top skin layer (the epidermis), giving your face a more radiant appearance and softer texture.
Medium-depth peels: This type of peel penetrates further into the skin for patients who have deeper damage to their skin, like deeper wrinkles and darker pigmentation problems.
Deep peels: This chemical peel is an aggressive treatment that is typically used for those that have age or dark spots, sun-damaged skin, significant acne scars, or deep scars.
We will clean your skin, then spread the solution onto your treatment area. Next, we will wash the peel off your face and put on a neutralizing agent. You can expect your skin to itch and peel from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on your treatment plan, and you will need to avoid the sun. We will give you instructions on how to treat your skin after your procedure. Please remember that no matter how much your skin itches, it's not good to scratch or pull the skin off as it may cause scarring.
