What is a Facelift?
A facelift is a customized procedure that rejuvenates the mid-to-lower face and neck to refresh and renew the facial appearance, taking years off the face and restoring defined, elegant lines. During a facelift, Dr. Karen will carefully trim loose, excess facial skin, tighten deeper tissues and muscles, and remove any excess fat. A facelift surgery achieves natural-looking, long-lasting results, sculpting the cheekbones and jawline to restore the refined, firmer, and contoured appearance of your youth.
What Are the Benefits of a Facelift?
A facelift performed by Dr. Karen can rejuvenate your appearance by lifting and tightening skin, muscles, and tissues on the face and neck. Although every patient is unique, the main benefits of a facelift include:
- Softening deep facial folds
- Smoothing excessive sagging and drooping of large wrinkles
- Restoring an elegant neck contour, smooth jawline, and defined cheek bones
- Removing sagging jowls and double chins
- Improving the overall quality of the skin
- Achieving a more youthful and natural facial contour

Who is a Candidate for Facelift Surgery?
If you're in the Peachtree City, Newnan, or nearby GA area and you're interested in restoring a natural, more-youthful appearance, a facelift may be the perfect procedure for your goals. The typical facelift patient is between 40 and 75 and is unhappy with his or her signs of facial aging. The best candidates for facelift surgery are those who:
- Have excess skin in the mid-face, jowls, and neck
- Have deep creases along the mid-to-lower face
- Have loose skin and excess fat under the chin
- Are in good health
- Have lost some skin elasticity
- Have realistic expectations for what the procedure can accomplish
- Are able to take up to 2 weeks off of work and/or responsibilities to properly recover
- Would like to improve the appearance of loose skin, wrinkles, and other common signs of aging.
Patients must undergo an evaluation at Exclusively Faces Cosmetic Surgery and Medispa to ensure they are physically and emotionally ready for this procedure. Our team will ask about your medical history, assess your skin, and discuss goals for treatment. If you have certain health conditions or take medications that could affect the healing process, we may recommend alternative options as your health is our number one priority.
What to Expect After Facelift Surgery

After your facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, Dr. Karen will carefully wrap your incisions in bandages before you're released to go home. This wrap will be removed the next day in-office. The sutures used to hold the incisions closed will be removed 5-6 days after the procedure.
For 1-3 weeks after facelift surgery, It's normal to have potentially large amounts of bruising, swelling, and asymmetry. Slight to moderate soreness and discomfort are also possible and may be reduced with prescription pain medication.
You should feel and physically look better after 2 – 4 weeks with a refined, more youthful appearance. We will see you at regularly scheduled post-op appointments to ensure you're healing properly, beginning at 1 week post-op, 2 weeks post-op, 6 weeks post-op, and up to 1 year post-op.

Facelift FAQ
How much does a facelift cost?
The total cost of your facelift will depend on the technique and other factors. During your consultation, Dr. Karen will develop your custom treatment plan to match your needs and goals. When this is established, he can discuss cost estimates. To avoid results that look unnatural, it's better to focus on finding an experienced surgeon, like Dr. Karen, instead of the lowest price. Exclusively Faces Cosmetic Surgery and MediSpa can give you information on low-interest financing that will make your facelift affordable.
Which technique is best for me?
The best technique for you will depend on your needs, goals, degree of skin laxity, what areas of your face are being addressed, and more. To produce your best results, Dr. Karen will discuss the different techniques during your consultation. He can then help you decide which technique is best.
Should I get a surgical or nonsurgical facelift?
While there are several great nonsurgical skin tightening treatments, these can usually only produce mild improvements. For moderate to severe skin sagging, a surgical facelift is the best choice to improve your appearance. In your consultation, Dr. Karen will discuss your options, including nonsurgical treatments, to help you choose which is best for your needs and goals.
What about wrinkle fillers and relaxers over facelift surgery?
Wrinkle fillers and relaxers, like BOTOX® and JUVÉDERM®, have become very popular in recent years to refresh the face. Sometimes known as a liquid facelift, nonsurgical wrinkle treatments are good for early signs of aging; however, the results are temporary. A facelift will produce more significant improvements than injectables with long-lasting results. Ask Dr. Karen about injectable treatments in your consultation.
Will my results look natural?
Some patients worry that a facelift will make their skin look shiny, overly tight, or like they are in a wind tunnel. Dr. Karen focuses on giving you a natural-looking result, so you appear refreshed, not fake. He listens to your concerns and goals before creating your personal treatment plan with the technique that will produce your best results.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift?
A facelift may be the right procedure to reduce visible signs of aging and improve facial contours. Ideal candidates are typically around 40-75 years old and have concerns like sagging skin in the mid-face, jowls, and neck, or deep creases along the lower face. However, being younger or older doesn't rule you out. Dr. Karen treats our patients as unique individuals. Regardless of your age, we can work with you to create a treatment plan you're happy with.
To qualify for a facelift, you should also be in good health, have realistic expectations, and be prepared to take about two weeks for recovery. Dr. Karen and our team discuss all these factors with you during your consultation to ensure the procedure is right for your needs and aligns with your goals.
What Parts of the Face Does a Facelift Cover?
A facelift primarily addresses the mid-to-lower areas of the face. This includes smoothing out sagging skin on the cheeks, tightening the jawline to reduce jowls, and eliminating loose skin and excess fat. While a facelift significantly improves these areas, it doesn't address the eyes, forehead, brow, or neck.
Can I Combine a Facelift and Neck Lift?
Combining a facelift with a neck lift is common, and Dr. Karen often recommends it for patients with aging skin in both the face and neck. While a facelift improves the mid-to-lower face, a neck lift refines the neck and under-chin areas for a more cohesive and youthful appearance. Combining these procedures provides more comprehensive results and eliminates the risk of a mismatch between the face and neck.
Can I Have Eyelid or Brow Lift Surgery at the Same Time?
You can combine a facelift with eyelid surgery or a brow lift for a full-face rejuvenation. Adding these procedures can address aging signs around the eyes and forehead, areas a facelift doesn't cover. Dr. Karen can tailor a treatment plan incorporating multiple procedures, streamlining your recovery and maximizing your results.
How Do Mini Facelift and Full Facelift Compare?
A mini facelift is less invasive than a full facelift and targets early signs of aging, primarily in the lower face and jawline. It's often ideal for younger patients with mild to moderate skin laxity who want a quicker recovery.
A full facelift addresses more advanced aging signs, including significant sagging and deep creases in the mid-to-lower face. While recovery from a full facelift takes longer, the results are more dramatic and long-lasting.
When Are Follow-Up Visits After Facelift Surgery?
After a facelift, follow-up visits are crucial to monitor your healing and ensure optimal results. Typically, you'll have appointments:
- The day after surgery
- One week post-op
- Two weeks post-op
- Six weeks post-op
- Regular visits up to one year post-op
During these check-ins, Dr. Karen assesses your healing progress, discusses concerns, answers questions, and provides ongoing support to ensure you're pleased with your results. A well-structured post-op plan ensures that your facelift delivers the natural, youthful results you desire.
