What is Sculptra?

Loss of volume happens during the natural aging process, especially in the mid-face as the cheeks tend to become hollow and flat. Plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Karen offers Sculptra, a poly-L-lactic acid injectable dermal filler that allows for longer-lasting and deeper volume replacement in the cheeks. In addition to increasing the contour of the cheeks, Sculptra can reduce the look of shallow to deep wrinkles and lines, like the nasolabial folds (also known as smile or laugh lines) that start at the edges of the nose and extend to the outer corners of the lips. With a unique formula, Sculptra increases the natural production of collagen in your body so even if you stop injections, your complexion should still be healthier compared to before Sculptra treatments. Schedule an appointment at Exclusively Faces Cosmetic Surgery and Medispa in Sharpsburg, GA to hear about the benefits of this injectable treatment.

What Can I Expect from My Sculptra Treatment?

Following a one-on-one consult with Dr. Karen to develop your custom treatment plan, you will receive your injections in our private procedure room. We may use a numbing cream or local anesthetic prior to cleaning and marking the areas to be injected to help you stay comfortable. As soon as you are prepared, the filler will be injected into the deeper skin layers at the selected areas. For longer-lasting results, Dr. Karen performs a series of four injections that are each scheduled at our Sharpsburg, GA location about three weeks apart. Following your Sculptra treatment, you may experience mild or moderate swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the sites of injections — this should subside on its own in several days. To encourage healing, you can apply cold packs to the injected areas and should avoid UV exposure as much as possible after your treatment and use sun protection. Most of our Shenandoah Valley patients will notice visible improvements right after their injections with full results appearing after a few months when the natural collagen production strengthens the complexion. When performed in a series of injections over 3 – 4 months, results can last as long as two years.

Sculptra FAQ

How much does Sculptra cost?
Treatments with Sculptra can range in price based on how much you need to achieve your desired results. Some patients may also need several treatments to get the optimal outcome. In your initial consultation, your injector will discuss your goals and customize a treatment plan for your specific budget.

How does Sculptra work?
Using poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), Sculptra is a collagen stimulator. Sculptra can help to rejuvenate your skin’s elasticity and appearance over time as more collagen is formed. The increased collagen can visibly fill out facial lines, wrinkles, and folds.

Are Sculptra injections safe?
Approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), Sculptra has a long history of safety worldwide since 1999. Though side effects are rare, they can include slight pain, swelling, redness, and bruising. Occasionally, bumps may become noticeable if too much pressure is applied to the injection site. Contact our team at Exclusively Faces if you experience any concerns about side effects that are abnormal or last too long.
